Uunisaari in front of Kaivopuisto has gained a bridge connection for the winter months, and on the rocky island you can gaze at the horizon and watch passing ships and shore waves, and marvel at the arrival of spring.

On hikes you can go at Easter too! Have you ever visited Sheep Island, Kruunuvuori Lake (now has mostly ready, new long walkways!) in spring, Worm Island, or Stansvik manor park? Also Talo Island, Customs Island, Kivinokka, Seurasaari and Pukki Island, and even Suomenlinna are wonderful hiking destinations also in winter. Pack your backpack with snacks and dress warmly!

More hiking destination tips for Helsinki adventures can be found in Small Helsinki's Helsinki places article.

New grilling areas have been built, including in Laajasalo at Tullisaari manor park and Stansvik. You need to bring your own charcoal/firewood. Older grilling areas can be found at, for example, Uutela, Seurasaari, and Kallahdenniemi beach in Vuosaari.

Uutela hut and Paloheinä's new hut opening hours should be confirmed in advance.

Day trips at Easter

Tips for day trips in Helsinki and the surrounding area can be found in Small Helsinki's Day trips series.

Sipoonkorpi National Park offers, for example, an easy-access Tasakallio – Storträsk route and the Byabäcken nature trail, formerly known as the Ponn heritage post route, which leads to a grilling area and a cabin for warming up. Tip from experience: with small children, the Byabäcken route is best walked from the start to the grilling area and returned the same way, not completing the full circuit. The grilling area usually has plenty of ready-made firewood, so bring matches and snacks. However, note that some routes may be slippery or very wet due to changing weather.

You should also try the route from Kuusijärvi to Sipoonkorpi and experience a beautiful bridge crossing into the national park.

Helsinki city outdoor areas can be found on the Helsinki moves website.

New and interesting hiking destinations can also be found at Uusimaa Recreation Area Association's destinations.

In Espoo, Angry Birds playgrounds, numerous outdoor destinations, and for example, Träskanda's beautiful manor park are excellent hiking destinations with children.

Porvoo and, for example, the old Porvoo sights and Moomin playground are nice destinations in East Uusimaa.

Lahti and Launee family park and large ski jumping hills are worth seeing.

Kirkkonummi and Linloo and Porkka outdoor areas.

Inkoo's Degerby peace and quiet and grilling at Kopparnäs recreation area.
