The range of sports activities is huge and choosing a sport for a small child is difficult. To help with sport selection and introduce different forms of exercise, there are two opportunities in August. Additionally, the City of Helsinki organizes Sports Fun sessions once a week at Maunula Sports Hall and Myllypuro Liikuntamylly, as well as Family Ball Sports at Myllypuro Pallomylly twice a week, now also in the mornings.
Small Helsinki has listed low-threshold, informal sports activities suitable for small children that are also perfect as a shared activity for the whole family.
Sport introductions and togetherness
Sports for Everyone is held at Liikuntamylly in Myllypuro on Saturday 19.8.2017 from 12-15. The event features diverse sports activity stations, sport demonstrations, competitions and games. Please bring indoor shoes or slippers and casual clothes. Entry is free.“Dad Take a Shot” event is held on Saturday 2.9.2017 from 10-13 and you can come according to your own schedule and stay as long as you like. At Liikuntamylly in Myllypuro. Mums and other family members are also welcome to join the children’s event to exercise together and try their skills at various stations. Please bring indoor shoes or slippers and casual clothes. Free entry.
For both Liikuntamylly events, please note that lockers require your own lock. There are plenty of lockers in the lobby as well as after the checkout. Space for strollers is limited, but in previous years they have generally fit well. Liikuntamylly parking is paid; the metro stops right next to the event venue.
Children’s Sports Hawk Party is held on Saturday 19.8.2017 from 10 - 14 at Arena Center Myllypuro. At the Hawk Party organized by SC Hawks sports club, you have the opportunity to get to know different sports activities and sports easily and effortlessly in one place. Bring casual clothes and indoor shoes. Free entry.
SC Hawks organizes, for example, affordable sports for 5-8 year olds in the form of Hawk League in Myllypuro, Ruskeasuo and Hakaniemi. More information about Hawk League can be found here.

Sports Fun in Maunula and Myllypuro
If you're looking for family time and free, yet diverse indoor exercise as a sports hobby, remember the Sports Fun events organized by the City of Helsinki. Sports Fun sessions are held on Saturdays 9-10.30 at Maunula Sports Hall and on Sundays 9-10.45 at Liikuntamylly in Myllypuro. Sports Fun has numerous different stations where you can play games, do tricks, climb... There's something to do for all ages and the event is also suitable for younger children. No advance registration is needed for Sports Fun and you can stay as long as you're interested. Family Ball Sports in Myllypuro
In Family Ball Sports, Pallomylly's artificial grass field is reserved for young ball players starting Tuesday 5.9. The soft surface, plenty of space and a bag of various balls give little ones room to play, get active and practice walking, for example. In Family Ball Sports, children exercise with their own adult.The City of Helsinki’s Family Ball Sports are now also held on Tuesday mornings 9.30-11.30, so you can head here, for example, with children on parental leave even on rainy days. Afternoon Family Ball Sports are held on Tuesdays 16-18 and Thursdays 16-17.
No advance registration; you can participate whenever you feel like it. Free for children under 9, single entry fee for adults at Pallomylly (3.50 €).
You can easily access Pallomylly with strollers and leave the stroller on the side of the field during ball sports. There’s plenty of space in the lobby to eat snacks. Pallomylly is located in Myllypuro Sports Park, close to Ring Road 1 bus stops (stop name Kukkaniityntie, numbers 4285/4284) and Myllypuro metro station. Within walking distance to Itiksen shopping center.

Also remember the City of Helsinki’s Family Exercise at Latakartano Sports Hall and Oulunkylä Sports Park. Gym tricks are held at Latokartano and Oulunkylä as well as at Kontula Fitness Basement.
