Helsinki City's playground summer meal tradition continues this summer too. Free summer lunch is offered to children and young people under 16 years old at Helsinki City's open playgrounds. The playground summer meals start this year on the school children's first day of summer vacation on 2.6.2025 and end on 1.8.2025. What does summer meals at playgrounds mean?

On the school children's first summer vacation day, the 83rd summer of playground meals begins. Helsinki offers free lunch to children and young people under 16 years old at open playgrounds on weekdays at 12 o'clock from 2.6.-1.8.2025.

To participate in playground meals, you need to bring your own deep plate, eating utensils and drinks. The lunch menu includes various soups and casseroles, so for example your own sandwich bread is a good addition to the meal.

No pre-registration is needed to participate in playground meals and lunch is available at all open Helsinki City playgrounds. It's good to arrive early as food is limited. Please note that some playgrounds are closed for part or even the entire summer, so you should check the status of your local playground on the summer activities map below this article.

At MLL's Family House Unikko, playground lunch is exceptionally offered in June from 2.-27.6.2024 at 12 o'clock while playground Traktor is closed.

Summer meals in Espoo

Summer meals are being piloted in July at five resident parks in Espoo. Free warm meals are offered in July 1.-31.7.2025 at 12 o'clock to all residents parks' customers under 16 years old. Summer meals are available at Soukka, Perkkaa, Olari, Suvela and Tapiola resident parks. Bring your own dishes, eating utensils and drinks.

Summer meals in Vantaa

Summer food is also available in Vantaa in summer 2025. Warm food is distributed free of charge to under 18-year-olds from Vantaa in various parts of the city 2.6.–1.8. on weekdays from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Elderly people can now also participate in summer meals. Bring your own dishes, eating utensils and drinks.

Playgrounds open 2.-27.6.2025:

Playgrounds Arabia, Brahe, Ida, Kotinummi, Lahnalahti, Laurinniitty, Maasälpä, Munkki, Mustakivi, Mäkitorppa, Nuoli, Nurkka, Strömberg, Taivallahti, Torpparinämäki, Trumpetti and ~~Viiri~~ (Viiri closed earlier than planned on 19.6.2025). Summer meals are organized at MLL's Family House Unikko from 2.-27.6.2025 (no lunch at Unikko on 6.6. and 20.6.2025).
