Helsinki has over 200 playgrounds and more than 60 play parks. But do you know where one of Helsinki's newest playgrounds is located?

The answer is Kruunuvuorenranta, a new neighborhood being built in Laajasalo, where a new small playground opened in late 2022. Kruunuvuorenranta's first playground is part of a sports park currently under construction in the area, which features, in addition to the playground, an artificial turf field and a skate and scooter park called SKUUM! Update: The sports park as a whole was completed in July 2023 and is now almost fully in use.

Kruunuvuorenranta's playground is not huge, but all the more charming for it. There are elements here that I haven't seen in other Helsinki playgrounds. The playground is fenced and works well for children of different ages.

In the evenings and on weekends, additional space for play comes from the nearby daycare Hopealaakso's outdoor area, which is also quite large and versatile with Company's wooden play equipment.

The continuation of the sports park, which opened in July 2023, offers activities for slightly older children and adults. The park now consists of a fenced playground, a skate and scooter park, an artificial turf and multi-use field, as well as an area offering various stunting and climbing opportunities. The park also has frisbee golf baskets, the opportunity to play table tennis (you need to bring your own paddles and ball), climb, and much more! Around the corner you'll find an outdoor gym with a hermit crab theme. One corner of the park is still under construction, and at least a tennis court will be added as a continuation of the sports park.

But what on earth is the point of that otherwise quite fun little mouse toy?
Comment below, guesses are also very welcome!
