Paddling pools in Helsinki playgrounds and open-air swimming facilities
Article published 28.5.2019, updated 28.5.2025
Update 4.8.2025: The playgrounds' summer season and paddling pool filling has ended for this summer! Pirkkolan Plotti is open until 10.8.2025 and water sprays in some playgrounds may still be in use. For more detailed information, contact the playgrounds directly.
Helsinki's playground paddling pools will be filled again this summer in open playgrounds. Paddling pools can still be found in many Helsinki playgrounds and for example at the Swimming Stadium and Kumpula open-air swimming facilities. Little Helsinki received a wish list of paddling pools, and this article now contains an updated list for summer 2024.
NOTE! The list may contain errors, as it has been challenging to clarify the situation of paddling pools in all parks. Please let us know of any errors so I can correct them to avoid unnecessary trips.
Thank you for your cooperation!
The pools in playgrounds generally have water on weekdays around the clock (weather permitting), on weekends the pools have NO water. In some parks, the pool water is changed mid-week and during water changes the pool is not in use. Also, during playgrounds' summer closures, pools are emptied, so check the playground's summer opening hours and pool status before planning your swimming trip. Splashing in playgrounds is free.

You can also paddle in open-air swimming facilities on weekends. Swimming Stadium, Kumpula open-air swimming facility and Leppävaara open-air swimming facility in Espoo charge an admission fee. On the Espoo side, next to Tapiola central pool there is a paddling pool with free access. At Helsinki's open-air swimming facilities at the Swimming Stadium and Kumpula, children under 7 years old swim free of charge, as do almost all Helsinki swimming halls.
Update! During the summer season 2025, Helsinki children and young people aged 7-19 can visit open-air swimming facilities free of charge with a youth services membership card.
Other things to note:
- Swimming is always done in proper swimwear. At all the open-air swimming facilities mentioned in this article, you can also swim in swimming shorts.
- Adult supervision responsibility for children in the water always lies with the adult who came to the park with the child.
- During summer, there is a supervisor at the paddling pool area monitoring its use during playground opening hours.
- During the playground's summer closure or on weekends, the pools have no water.
- Playground paddling pools have water only on WEEKDAYS during the summer season (exceptions may occur, for example water changes mid-week). The playground summer season ends 4.8.2025 (summer meals already 1.8.2025).
- Playground paddling pool water is not chlorinated or heated.
